"Hieroglyphical Letter to the Editor," by Susanna Newbould, is an elaborate concoction of visual puzzles and puns. Newbould had a puzzle column, "The Puzzle Drawer," in Woodworth's Youth's Cabinet; she later edited the puzzle column of Robert Merry's Museum.
